My boyfriend Rusty and I spent the weekend out in the Morongo Valley desert, staying at Pioneertown, exploring the Salton Sea, and shooting our guns out beyond 29 Palms. This wasn't meant to be an outfit photo -- mainly because it wasn't meant to be an "outfit" -- but I figured I'd share it with you guys anyway. I kind of feel like what we wear on our off days says just as much about our personal style as our most calculated looks, don't you?
I know it looks like I'm standing on a regular old coastal beach here, but I'm actually at Bombay Beach on the shore of the Salton Sea, a saline lake in the middle of the desert that stretches over almost 400 square miles! It's a pretty crazy, beautiful, weird, eerie spot. It rained on and off all day on Saturday and it was pretty chilly out in the desert, so I was definitely dressing for comfort!
Olive drab parka with fur-trimmed hood: Roxy, $60, Nordstrom.
Gray-and-white-striped long-sleeve tee: $10, Old Navy.
Black fringed scarf: $16, Urban Outfitters.
Black skinny jeans: Cheap Monday, $60, Barney's CO-OP.
Black riding boots: Soda, $40, Fred Flare.
Silver ring: Compliments of Like Beau.
Black plastic sunglasses: Chloe, $75, Loehmann's.
Also thought I'd share this picture of my dude because I think he's a really fashionable male, even when he's not trying. He's got that great, effortless style that only comes with years of practice. This is pretty much his uniform right now -- a plaid flannel over either a skate or a band tee, Levi's 514s, and Red Wing work boots. He's got it so down it's pretty much unfuckwithable:
Blue plaid flannel: Wal-Mart.
Thrasher Magazine"Sk8 Goat" tee: a birthday present from yours truly.
Jeans: Levi's.
Boots: Red Wings.
Sunglasses: KISS, $5 a pair at the Orange County swapmeet (Rusty buys six pairs at a time).

sara i love so much that you and rusty do awesome shit like this! me and my beau are thinking about moving down south and i could totally see him and rusty bro-ing down in a serious way.... they both ride motorcycles and like guns! plus they both have really cool girlfriends.
Love the photography, and that Roxy parka is on point! With all this rain, I've been wearing two of my favorite military green anoraks almost daily. Would love to see more outdoor shots like this in the future...
