On My Radar: October 14, 2009

Here are some things I've been obsessing over recently:

Click for full size.

1.) Christopher Kane's entire collaboration with Topshop is pretty amazing, but I'm extra into this photo-print crocodile dress, clearly inspired by the much-talked-about gorilla dresses from his Spring 2009 collection. Monkeys kind of freak me out, so I actually prefer this lower-end version. Obvs not for the faint of heart, but seriously, how sick is this thing? Christopher Kane for Topshop croc dress, $125, Topshop.

2.) I've been jonesing for a cool cross-body bag for a few months now and this one is pretty close to perfect -- kind of unusual and super cool. Since it's fully metallic it works as a neutral, and I love that the studs are in mixed metals, so it goes with whatever. Studded grid across-body bag, $48.84, ASOS (P.S., use the code OCTOBER09 at checkout and get 25% off your entire purchase through 10/21).

3.) You know I'm a sucker for a cross motif when it comes off a little sinister, so I'm all about these shoulder-dusters in faceted black stones. They'd kill it with my vintage metal tees. Jeweled cross earrings, $4.80, Forever 21.

4.) Please meet the most badass Vans ever -- the new Hi Fi Lx style in black fucking pony hair. These suckers are part of the Vault collection and were slated to be released back in August, but as far as I can tell they're haven't made it to production yet. I've been thinking about them for ages, though, so today I emailed Vans customer service to find out what the deal is -- I'll keep you posted if I find anything out, because these are haunting my dreams at the moment. Black pony hair Vans Hi Fi Lx, Vans Vault.

5.) Thanks in part to the huge presence of slinky nude pieces on the runway for S/S '10, I'm hunting out similar items, and I'm totally feeling this body-conscious nude tunic tank with black bondage-strap-style details. It manages to project a super tough vibe, but it's not obvious. Bandage strapping tunic vest, $44, Topshop.

6.) I'm a longtime alt-comics fan, so I'm really into the R. Crumb tees at Altru (I featured the "Stoned Agin" shirt back in June), and lately this creepy Kilroy one has been really calling to me. I imagine wearing it on days when I just don't feel like dealing with people -- kind of a "stay away from me" vibe. R. Crumb "Weirdo" t-shirt, $32, Altru Apparel.

7.) Recently I ran into my girl Kristina (who used to run Milk It Honey before she got super busy with her new job) and she was working the same F21 buckle wedges I have, but in nude, and it looked so good I was basically dying. It got me thinking: shoes that are a little on the badass side in style look that much more awesome in shades of taupe and beige, so naturally I'm loving these nude cutout booties, which would kill it with black skinny jeans or toughie dresses. Cut-out booties, $24.80, Forever 21.

8.) I think I finally found the perfect deep purple lipstick -- it's matte and creamy and a seriously amazing shade of grape that I think is going to be surprisingly wearable for fall. On my "must have" list, for sure. Mattene Lipstick in Night Violet, $14.50, M•A•C Cosmetics.

Those VANS! In the name of all things good I think I might actually be salivating over those beauties.

I wish I was a lipstick kind of girl because it seems like just the most fun. That purple has me seriously considering a change. However I'll probably just stick to my benitint lipstain because my clumsy self tends to get more lipstick on my cups and shirt than my mouth!

I adore #5, F21 actually has a similar version in gray/black. The croc dress is cool, too. I have the croc tee and have been wearing it quite a lot, with some funny stares from people, of course :)
