Fantasy Outfit: Overcast F/W

We've been having a weird August in Southern California, gloomy until around noon and much cooler than usual. The overcast mornings aren't helping my fall state of mind! Today's fantasy outfit is sort of a femme take on the post-apocalyptic Mad Max urchin thing which always feels right for colder weather. I see myself wearing this in the Pacific Northwest, kicking around the streets of Portland or Seattle as fall turns into winter.

Click for full size.

1.) A warm men's military jacket with a removable hood and enough pockets that a purse is unnecessary. Outerwear meant for the opposite sex is a good bet this fall; cool oversized silhouettes over more body-skimming pieces are so good. Men's jersey-lined military jacket, $49.50, Old Navy.

2.) Another pair of fingerless gloves to lust for -- these ones are perforated and super-soft. A badass addition to pretty much any cold weather look. Deena & Ozzy leather perforated gloves, $28, Urban Outfitters.

3.) I love this necklace, cast from a tiny ruby-throated hummingbird skull, so much. The perfect juxtaposition of incredibly beautiful and creepily surreal. Totally unusual and completely breathtaking. Erica Weiner hummingbird skull necklace, $80, Bona Drag.

4.) Into this dress's easygoing feel -- the elastic waist and french terry construction keep it super casual, but it has a stylish shape to it. French terry dress, $16.90, Heritage 1981.

5.) I'm not huge on florals, but I like the dark color scheme and oversized print on this pair of leggings -- they kind of remind me of 16th- and 17-th century still life paintings, and they're also reminiscent of Erdem's recent use of dark florals (Fall 2009 and Resort 2010). Hydrangea print leggings, $40, Topshop.

6.) These multi-buckled wedge boots are kind of the poor man's version of those Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony buckle boots everyone's been shitting themselves over lately. Not nearly as good, of course, but they're right, it does feel good to pay less. alice + olivia for Payless "Madison" biker boot, $49.99, Payless.

While I love cooler weather over "why can't my apartment cool down despite 5 fans and an AC running?", it is weird weather. I'm wearing layers right now, in August. D:

It's been like fall in summer here, hasn't it? I'd definitely wear this outfit, but it was almost 100 degrees when I went to Portland last month:) Still can't wait to wear layers, though.

I'm wondering if those boots fit true to size? I'll have to try to find them in a store

I bought those leggings a few weeks back with almost the EXACT same outfit idea in mind. I've never really taken to any of the more delicate floral leggings in highstreet stores but the dark, bold print of these is lush!
