Of The Moment: Amazing Lace

Lacy runway looks from (L to R) La Perla, Temperley London, Erin Fetherston, Prada, Emma Cook, and Erdem. Click for full-size.

I admit, I am a member of the "not a big fan of lace" camp. It's something I have always felt is best in very small doses, as it can easily look...well...cheap. (There's a reason it's most at home on lingerie!) Imagine my surprise, then, when the Fall 2008 runways were rife with lace of a different kind: lace that looked chic, smart, fresh, and rich. I have a feeling we're in for a resurgence of frills in the coming months, so here are a few lacy items I've found that I think use the material in an appropriate, up-to-the-minute way.

Click for full size.

1.) Lace sleeve cardigan, $34, Twelve By Twelve.

2.) Baroque brocade coat, $74.99, Modcloth.

3.) Modern lace net tights, DKNY, $5.50, Dillard's.

4.) Lace tube top, $21.99, Charlotte Russe.

5.) "Iam" lace bootie, $109, Nine West.

6.) Lace inset blouse, $29.50, Alloy.

7.) Gathered lace top, $19.80, Forever 21.

8.) "Sophie" lace boyshort, $4.80, Forever 21.

9.) Korean bead and lace necklace with pom pom, $15.90, Asia Jam.

10.) Purple lace flats, $26, Fred Flare.

The undeniable beauty of lacy runway looks aside, I'm still not sure whether or not I'll be on board with this trend come fall. What about you? Will you embrace lace, or will you sit this one out?

Yeeeeeeeah, I still don't think I'm on board. I went through a lace phase when I was about 16, and I think I wore myself out there.

With that being said...those purple flats with just a HINT of lace detailing are REALLY pretty...I'd consider those.

I'm totally embracing the lace trend, although I agree that many uses of lace can look cheap! Love the blue lace coat!

i plan to incorporate it into my very causal looks in the fall. the point is to make it look out of place and not too girly by wearing it in unexpected ways. like with skinny jeans and a long grandpa sweater cadi with a little lacy blouse peeking out from underneath it. For those scared of embracing the trend head on, try wearing the lacy stockings instead of the tried and true fishnets....

Yeah, I might try a little bit of lace. i'm such a girly-girl that it'd fit pretty well w/ my usual style. But i definitely agree that to much is just kinda trashy.

I have a couple of pairs of black lace tights that I'll be wearing. Other than that, I don't know. I could see a black lace dress or skirt, but I'd really have to find the right one. I like lace over fabric, not skin...Know what I mean?
