Looks That Kill: Little Red

For work sometimes it's easiest to just throw on a slightly complicated dress in a screamingly loud color and call it a day:

It's not my favorite outfit, but it works. This is a Marc Jacobs dress from several seasons ago, which I picked up a couple of years ago on Ebay, new with tags, for a fraction of the original cost after it had ceased to be current. It's a good work dress and it's been through a lot with me. I don't wear it much anymore -- I'm not really a huge fan of red; I don't know why I bought it in this shade -- but it's fine in a pinch for a work outfit that still has some panache. I do like all the unusual details, like the high neck, ruffled button placket, pouch pockets, and string belt.

This is something of a "statement" dress, so I paired it with understated nude patent platform slingbacks. An old beauty pageant trick that holds true is that a pair of nude heels will elongate your legs -- it works, not to mention that nude pumps in a great shape look chic with absolutely everything.

Dress: Marc Jacobs, $60 on Ebay.
Nude patent slingback platforms: Around $20 at Forever 21.
Gold cuff: For Love 21, $3 or $4.
Arrowhead earrings: Vintage, picked up at Scuda in Huntington Beach for $3.

I must admit that I'm becoming addicted to your blog! I also love the nude heels trick for elongating the legs. It works wonders and it goes with almost everything!!

Poster Girl - Thanks, I'm addicted to yours too!

Kira - Scuda is impossible to find which is why it doesn't do very good business. It's in Old World Village, that little neighborhood of German shops, over kind of by the Westminster Mall. A friend runs it and it always has the best stuff, but I heard they may have had to go out of business so it may not be there anymore.
