Make Like: Dolly Parton

Ah, the inimitable Ms. Dolly Parton. She of the golden voice, the blonde curls up to there, the unignorable...assets. Spouting sugary bon mots with a hint of spice every time she opens her mouth (this is, after all, the woman who said "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap!"), Dolly is impossible not to like...but easy to emulate (even if you don't have that ample bosom!). Here are some of my picks for updating Dolly's country-girl-gone-glam look of the 1970s.

.)Country music and denim jackets go together like sequins and cowboy boots. This feminine, updated version is from Forever 21.

.) Dolly has never been one for subtlety -- the bigger the jewelry, the better! Plated plastic hoops, GirlProps.

.) Leave the embroidered, inlaid pair for your stagewar. Basic tan cowgirl boots, from Shepler's, go with everything from cutoffs to sundresses, and the fringed harness detail adds a little something extra.

.) It's sweeter and more modern, but this madras babydoll dress from Forever 21 still maintains the same feel as a classic Western shirt.

.) What would Dolly lug her stuff around in? This slouchy fringed bag from Urban Outfitters holds your extra mascara with room to spare.

.) A little bit of shimmery turquoise eyeshadow goes a long way. Urban Decay Deluxe eyeshadow in "Peace," from Sephora, starts sheer and gets more intense the more you layer it, so you can take it from the grocery store to the Grand Ol' Opry.

.) Dolly's all about exaggeration -- big hair, big boobs, big eyelashes. shu uemura Luxe false eyelashes are the best of the best.

.) Like Ms. Parton says, "The higher the hair, the closer to God." Attain sainthood with Frederic Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray and Goody's Versa 3-in-1 comb.

.) These polished floral hoop earrings from Forever 21 add a little elegance to a classic look.

.) When she wasn't in skintight sequined dresses, Dolly could be found kicking around in wide-legged jeans like these ones from Forever 21.

.) Less obvious than a calico blouse, but with the same dose of Southern sweetness. Sheer chiffon "Cristyann" blouse, Forever 21.

.) A rhinestone cowgirl needs rhinestone bracelets, Forever 21, to amp up a casual outfit.

.) The birdcage platform shape has 1970s appeal, and the cognac leather keeps it country. Steve Madden "Prey" platform sandals.
